Maureen R. Horton Portrait: American Society for Clinical Investigation

Maureen Horton is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation. Her research looks at immune mechanisms of lung inflammation and scarring, including the extracellular matrix and metabolic changes driven by mTORC2.

In the Atlas she is senior author of POW2011, an Annual Review of Immunology article with Jonathan Powell on how mTOR links the metabolism of immune cells to the decisions they make about what kind of cell to become.

  • Jonathan D. Powell 2 shared studies Showed that T cells lacking mTOR become regulatory T cells instead of effector cells, and that mTORC1 and mTORC2 each steer a different type of helper T cell

  • Greg M. Delgoffe Showed as a graduate student in Jonathan Powell's lab that T cells lacking mTOR become regulatory rather than effector T cells, and that mTORC1 and mTORC2 steer different helper-T-cell fates
  • Kristen N. Pollizzi Immunologist trained in Jonathan Powell's lab at Johns Hopkins who used gene deletions in mice to show how the two mTOR complexes push killer T cells toward effector or memory fates
