In inflamed mouse chondrocytes and a surgical osteoarthritis model, the plant compound corilagin reduced cartilage-degrading enzymes, restored markers of healthy cartilage, and dialed down both NF-κB signaling and overactive PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling — which let autophagy resume. Blocking autophagy chemically partly undid corilagin's benefit, confirming autophagy restoration as part of the mechanism.
