DNA methylation age analysis of rapamycin in common marmosets.
What this study shows
The authors built two epigenetic clocks for common marmoset blood from DNA methylation data; the human-marmoset clock for relative age correlated moderately well with age in vervet monkeys and rhesus macaques. In a separate marmoset cohort they tested whether rapamycin would change epigenetic age. The clocks did not detect a significant effect of rapamycin on the epigenetic age of marmoset blood. Boundary: a null result on one biomarker (DNA methylation age in blood). It does not show that rapamycin has no effect on aging in marmosets, only that these clocks did not register one; the abstract gives no dose, duration or group size.
At a glance
| Evidence type | A Animal model Marked A because it is an animal study reporting a negative or null result (model: Common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) whole blood, DNA methylation array, rapamycin cohort; vervet and rhesus macaque for clock comparison); a well-designed null result is still evidence, and the code names the system studied, not the importance. |
