Stefan Feske's lab studies ion transport and signalling in immune cells, including calcium and pH-sensing pathways in T and B lymphocytes. He is the senior author of HU2026B, which found that the Na/HCO3- cotransporter SLC4A7/NBCn1 is required to keep intracellular pH compatible with mTORC1 activity during B-cell differentiation into antibody-secreting cells, and that antibody responses are similarly impaired by extracellular acidosis in a mouse model of metabolic acidosis -- linking a basic physiological variable, pH, to the mTORC1-dependent step of humoral immunity.
