Peter Bai
Biochemist who studies PARP enzymes, mitochondria and metabolism

Peter Bai (Bay Péter in Hungarian) is Professor in the Department of Medical Chemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Debrecen. He publishes on PARP enzymes, mitochondrial function and metabolism.
In the Atlas he is senior author of RAUCH2026. In cultured fat-cell precursors, removing the enzymes tankyrase-1 or tankyrase-2 slowed their development into fat cells. Cells lacking tankyrase-2 had more AMPK activity and less mTORC1 activity, and the defect could be rescued by switching mTORC1 back on with the drug NV-5138 or by blocking LKB1.

A selection, not a full bibliography: only papers that meet the Atlas inclusion criteria.
| Year | Evidence | Study |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | M | Tankyrase-2 regulates adipocyte differentiation through AMPK/mTOR signaling. RAUCH2026 Senior author: tankyrase-2 supports adipocyte differentiation by restraining AMPK and allowing mTORC1 activity (cell line). |
