Manuel Carcao Portrait: The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)

Manuel Carcao has been on staff in the Division of Haematology/Oncology at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto since 1999 and is Professor in the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto. He holds organisational roles in the bleeding-disorders field and sits on several journal editorial boards.

In the Atlas he is senior author of MCNEILL2026, a single-centre review of children with Evans syndrome and other autoimmune cytopenias (conditions where the immune system attacks blood cells). It reports that sirolimus was effective in these children. The abstract was not yet indexed when the study was added, so its effect sizes still need checking.
