Congxiu Huang

Radiation oncology researcher in Hohhot and first author of a study linking the PIK3CA E545K mutation to faster growth and invasion of cervical cancer through AKT/mTOR signalling

Department of Radiation Oncology, The Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University (2026, at the time of the study)

PIK3CA is the gene for the catalytic part of PI3K, an enzyme at the top of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR growth pathway. Certain spelling mistakes in this gene, called hotspot mutations, keep the enzyme switched on. In the Atlas study HUANG2026 in Molecular Genetics and Genomics, Congxiu Huang was first author. The team sequenced tumours from 61 patients with cervical cancer and found PIK3CA among the most often mutated genes. They then put the E545K mutation, one of the common hotspots, into cervical cancer cell lines. The cells grew and invaded faster, died less, and showed stronger AKT/mTOR signalling. Human cancer cells grown as tumours in mice (a xenograft model) behaved the same way. The work suggests that patients whose tumours carry this mutation might be candidates for drugs against the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, but it did not test such drugs in patients.

PubMed lists Huang at the Department of Radiation Oncology of the Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University in Hohhot, with Sun X as senior author. Because the name is common, no other paper could be tied to this person with confidence, and no official profile page was found.

2026 M Recurrent PIK3CA-E545K mutation promotes cervical cancer growth and invasion via AKT/mTOR signaling. HUANG2026 First author: found PIK3CA among the most often mutated genes in 61 cervical tumours and showed in cells and xenografts that E545K drives growth and invasion through AKT/mTOR.
