Antonio Carlos de Freitas

Geneticist who studies human papillomavirus, HPV vaccines and diagnostics, and links between HPV and breast and lung cancer

Associate Professor of Genetics · Federal University of Pernambuco · CNPq Productivity Researcher

Laboratory of Molecular Studies and Experimental Therapy (LEMTE), Department of Genetics, Federal University of Pernambuco (Recife, Brazil) ↗

Antonio Carlos de Freitas is Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics at the Federal University of Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil, where he leads the Laboratory of Molecular Studies and Experimental Therapy (LEMTE). He is a CNPq Productivity Researcher, and his work covers papillomavirus infection, HPV vaccines and diagnostics, and the possible role of HPV in breast and lung cancer.

In the Atlas he is senior author of DEOLIVEIRA2026. In breast tumour samples, HPV16 cancer-gene expression went along with higher PI3K and lower mTOR messenger RNA. The study measured RNA only and is correlational, so it does not show that HPV changes mTOR activity.
