Saeed A Hafez

Researcher with the Aseer Health Cluster in Abha, Saudi Arabia, and first author of a 2026 mouse study testing the bee-venom peptide melittin against psoriasis-like skin inflammation

Health Holding Company, Aseer Health Cluster, Saudi Ministry of Health, Abha (at the time of the study, 2026)

Saeed A Hafez was first author of a 2026 Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal study (HAFEZ2026) on psoriasis, a common skin disease in which skin cells grow too fast and the skin becomes red, thick and scaly. The team produced a psoriasis-like rash in mice by rubbing imiquimod cream on the skin, a standard laboratory model. They then injected melittin, the main active peptide of bee venom. At the higher dose the rash score fell by about 60 percent.

The study links the effect to the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, the chain of signals that tells cells to grow. Melittin lowered the activity of this pathway in the skin and raised markers of autophagy, the cell's self-cleaning system that mTOR normally holds back. This is one mouse model, with melittin given by injection into the abdomen, so it does not show that bee venom or melittin would help people with psoriasis.

PubMed lists Hafez at the Health Holding Company, Aseer Health Cluster, part of the Saudi Ministry of Health, in Abha. No other publication could be tied to this author with confidence, and a fuller career history could not be confirmed.

2026 A Melittin attenuates imiquimod-induced psoriatic dermatitis in mice: a role for autophagy activation via PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway suppression. HAFEZ2026 First author: tested melittin in a mouse model of psoriasis and linked the lower rash score to reduced PI3K/Akt/mTOR signalling and more autophagy.
