Rajesh R. Rao
First author of mouse studies in Protul Shrikant's group showing that mTOR activity decides between effector and memory fates in CD8 T cells by controlling T-bet and Eomesodermin
Department of Immunology, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo (papers with Protul Shrikant, 2010–2012)
Rajesh Rao was first author of the Atlas study in which IL-12 raised and prolonged mTOR activity in naive mouse CD8 T cells, and rapamycin blocked sustained T-bet expression, raised Eomesodermin and produced memory-precursor cells that persisted and controlled tumours better after transfer (RAO2010). A 2012 follow-up from the same group, also with Rao as first author, placed the transcription factor Foxo1 downstream of mTORC1 in this switch. The 2010 paper appeared in the same period as studies from other groups linking mTOR inhibition by rapamycin to better CD8 T-cell memory.
PubMed gives his forename as Rajesh. No current institutional page was found that can be tied to this person with confidence, so the affiliation shown is the one on the Atlas paper.
