Kjell Öberg is a Swedish physician and professor of endocrine oncology at Uppsala University and Uppsala University Hospital. He founded the Department of Endocrine Oncology there, served as dean of the medical faculty from 2002 to 2008, and helped found the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Network in the 1990s.
RADIANT-3 was a phase 3 trial that randomly assigned 410 people with advanced pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors to everolimus or placebo. Median time without progression was 11.0 months on everolimus and 4.6 months on placebo, a 65% reduction in the risk of progression or death. Side effects such as mouth sores and rash were mostly mild.
The trial helped make everolimus a standard treatment for these tumors, one of the approved uses of an mTOR inhibitor in cancer.
