Guozhong Lyu

Burn and wound-repair specialist in Wuxi whose group studies natural compounds, biomaterials and devices that improve healing and reduce scarring

Burn and Trauma Treatment Center, Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University · Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for Wound Repair Technology, Jiangnan University · National Emergency Medical Research Center, Emergency General Hospital, Beijing

Hypertrophic scars are thick, raised scars that form after burns or surgery when skin fibroblasts make too much collagen. In a 2026 study in Frontiers in Pharmacology led by Guozhong Lyu as senior author, the plant compound dihydromyricetin lowered collagen and other scar markers in fibroblasts from human scars and flattened scars in a rabbit ear model. Activating tags on the growth-signalling proteins AKT and mTOR dropped at the same time, but the authors say this does not show that the compound acts through mTOR.

Lyu works at the Burn and Trauma Treatment Center of the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University in Wuxi, at the university's Wuxi School of Medicine and its Ministry of Education engineering research centre for wound repair technology, and also lists the National Emergency Medical Research Center in Beijing. The group's recent papers range widely across wound healing: a compound from mangosteen that calms high-glucose inflammation in immune cells, a nanotube-based foam dressing for diabetic wounds in rats, and a flexible electromagnetic coil patch that speeds healing of skin wounds in rats (all 2026).
