Grégory Bonfils
First author of the yeast study proposing that leucyl-tRNA synthetase passes the leucine signal to TORC1 by binding the Rag GTPase Gtr1
Member of Claudio De Virgilio's group, Department of Biology (Division of Biochemistry), University of Fribourg, Switzerland (about 2009–2012) · current position not confirmed
Grégory Bonfils is first author of BON2012, from Claudio De Virgilio's group at the University of Fribourg. In budding yeast, the leucyl-tRNA synthetase Cdc60 bound the Rag GTPase Gtr1 of the EGO complex in a leucine-dependent way, and this contact was reported as necessary and sufficient to pass the leucine signal on to TORC1. When Cdc60 was busy editing wrongly charged tRNA(Leu), the contact was lost. The paper appeared in the same period as Han et al. 2012 in human cells, which also proposed a tRNA synthetase as a leucine sensor upstream of the Rags.
He was also a co-author of the group's 2009 Molecular Cell paper showing that the Vam6 GEF activates Gtr1 and TORC1 in yeast, and of a 2010 commentary on the EGO complex. His later career could not be confirmed from the sources checked here.

- Claudio De Virgilio Yeast geneticist whose lab found the EGO/Rag GTPase complex that activates TORC1 and showed that the SEACIT complex (Iml1–Npr2–Npr3) switches TORC1 off by acting as a GAP for the Rag GTPase Gtr1.
