Emilie Vander Haar
First author of the 2007 study identifying PRAS40 as the link that carries insulin signals from Akt to mTOR
University of Minnesota (2007)
Emilie Vander Haar did this work in Do-Hyung Kim's laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics at the University of Minnesota, the affiliation PubMed gives for the study. The Atlas has no other sourced details of her career, so this profile covers only that paper.
In the Atlas she is first author of VAN2007 in Nature Cell Biology. It identified PRAS40 as a protein that binds mTOR and holds it back. When insulin switches on Akt, Akt phosphorylates PRAS40, PRAS40 lets go, and mTOR signalling can proceed. This gave a second route from insulin to mTOR, alongside the better-known one through TSC2.
