Deborah J W Lee was first author of a 2024 systematic review in The Lancet Healthy Longevity (LEE2024). A systematic review gathers every study that meets fixed rules and judges them together, which makes it stronger than any single trial. The team screened about 18,400 records and kept 19 studies in which people took rapamycin or a related drug (a rapalog) with ageing-related outcomes in mind. The authors describe it as the first systematic review of its kind.
The picture was mixed. Measures of the immune system, the heart and blood vessels, and the skin improved in some studies. Hormone, muscle and brain measures showed no clear change. Healthy people had no serious side effects, but people who already had age-related diseases had more infections and higher cholesterol and triglycerides. For the Atlas this is one of the strongest summaries of what rapamycin does in humans, and it also shows how few human studies there are.
The paper lists Lee at the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Program of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. No other publication could be tied to this author with confidence, and a current position could not be confirmed.
