Shiting Yu works in the Northeast Asia Research Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Changchun University of Chinese Medicine. In this study, a protein extract from Chinese yam improved testicular histology, sperm parameters, and testosterone in aged rats, and rescued viability and reduced senescence markers in D-galactose-induced senescent Leydig and Sertoli cells in vitro. The effect was linked to restored autophagy through the mTOR-Beclin-1 axis and was largely lost when mTOR was activated.
PubMed shows Yu as a repeat contributor to this institute's broader natural-products work, indicating an active role in the lab's ongoing TCM pharmacology program.
