Kevin Perez

Aging researcher and co-founder of the Swiss company EPITERNA, working with Alejandro Ocampo's lab at the University of Lausanne on screening platforms that look for drugs extending lifespan across several species

Co-founder, EPITERNA SA, Épalinges · Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Lausanne, Ocampo lab (papers 2023–2026)

Many drugs extend lifespan in one lab animal and then fail in the next. Kevin Perez is first author of a 2026 paper describing a platform built to tackle that problem (PEREZ2026). It tests compounds in yeast, nematode worms, fruit flies, killifish and mice, uses automated imaging and a deep-learning program to spot when each animal dies, and has screened more than 400 compounds under thousands of conditions. By comparing species, it picks out compounds that work in several of them and shows that hits tend to act on known conserved longevity pathways, mTOR among them. The paper is about methods and infrastructure; individual hits still need checking in mammals and eventually people.

Perez is a co-founder of EPITERNA, a start-up set up with Alejandro Ocampo, who leads an aging lab at the University of Lausanne and is the company's CEO. The company aims to develop affordable products that slow aging and delay age-related disease. PubMed lists Perez with both EPITERNA SA and the Ocampo group in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Lausanne. Earlier work includes a 2023 first-author study showing that mouse models of premature aging with defects in DNA repair have an older 'epigenetic age', measured from DNA methylation, than their real age, unlike other premature aging models, and a 2025 study in which a two-chemical reprogramming cocktail reduced signs of aging in human cells and extended lifespan in worms.
