Halle earned her PhD in James Carson's Integrative Muscle Biology Laboratory at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and now works in Benjamin Miller's laboratory at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Her doctoral research centered on how cancer and its treatment disrupt skeletal muscle, including the feeding regulation of muscle protein synthesis in tumour-bearing mice and the mechanisms by which chemotherapy damages muscle independent of the tumour itself.
In the 2026 myotube study, she led the experiments dissecting how FOLFOX chemotherapy (5-fluorouracil, leucovorin and oxaliplatin) disrupts autophagy flux and protein synthesis in cultured muscle cells through altered mTORC1 and AMPK signalling, and tested whether the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin or the AMPK activator metformin could reverse the damage.
